Huawei has unveiled HarmonyOS NEXT, a new operating system that removes all Android code, making Huawei fully independent from Google.
The system, built on a microkernel architecture, promises faster performance, better security, and a streamlined app experience. However, it will only support HarmonyOS-native apps, meaning users can no longer install Android apps.
Huawei aims to build its own app ecosystem, but success depends on developer support. While the move strengthens Huawei’s independence, its global impact remains to be seen.
